Rebuilding the headlight motors from 2000-2004 is challenging because their housings were not designed to be taken apart for gear replacement. Opting for a new headlight motor will help you avoid the issues commonly associated with improperly sealed rebuilt units. From 1997 to 2004, C5 Corvettes came with two different types of headlight motors. The 1997-1999 models were equipped with the first design, which features a die-cast metal housing and three screws securing the gear housing. The 2000 model introduced the second design, made of injection-molded plastic, which lacks screws to secure the gear cover. This cover was factory-sealed and not meant for servicing. It’s crucial to check the style of your headlight motor in 2000 Corvettes, as some early models may still have the first design.
